Breastfeeding with Love and in Public

On August 30th, Black Girls' Breastfeeding club hosted an event in Atlanta, Georgia in honor of Black Breastfeeding Week and to kick off our new project. After searching online without success for stock photographs of Black mothers nursing, BGBC founder Ayanna Robinson, developed a project to increase representation of Black mothers breastfeeding in this form of media.

Seven African American nursing mothers were brought together in Atlanta for a free breastfeeding photography session. The event took place at Ponce City Market in Atlanta, Georgia. Mothers were photographed as they nursed at various shops and locations throughout this building to reinforce the normalization of breastfeeding in public and show that mothers are supported in breastfeeding at any time and in any place. Mothers had the option of including a support person in their photographs as well.

Special thanks to Jayida Ché Herbal Tea Spot, Dr. Kent Robinson of Mercy Health, and Guru Real Estate Investments, LLC. for their generous donations and sponsored gift bag items for our mothers.

Check out some of the photos from this event below. Subscribe to our email list to receive all of our updates, including the release of our stock photographs online.
